The canoe on display at the beginning of the award ceremony.

The drawing for the canoe raffle took place May 17 at 7 p.m.  I sold tickets at the door and raked in about $250.  This brought my total raffle sales to $3940.  All of which has been donated back into the woodshop as planned.  The winner of the canoe was Mr. Harry White from Freeland, MI.  He has a daughter than attended Freeland as  senior this year.  Mr. White, after announcing his name, came up on stage and announced that he will be donating the canoe back to the FHS woodshop.  It was a very generous motion on his part and Freeland, as well as myself, is very thankful for his kindness.

Overall, the canoe was  a major success and new tools are being purchased for the shop.  These tools include a new Jet Pro drum sander and cordless drills.

Thank you everyone who has been a great help with my project either selling tickets, purchasing tickets, or helping with my canoe.  Things could not have gone any better and again, thank you for your time and effort in my senior project.

Best Regards always,

Spencer Toth

Only hours remain…

Tackling this project and spending over half of the school day in woodshop this week has allowed me to finally see how the canoe is going to look when completed.  The gunnels are on, the seats are made, and the decks are now in place.  My presentation for this project is Friday, May 15.  The canoe WILL be presentable and all pieces will be in place.  Wish me luck!

I send out my best and deepest regards to the families and loved ones whoeli were a great part of Freeland High Schools own graduate, Elijah J. “Eli” Mullen.  Eli, 19,  died Saturday this past December 28 as he was walking home from a friends and was struck by a truck due to limited visibility because of dense fog.

You will surely be missed Eli.  R.I.P.

Reputation…

You should know by now from my past posts that I love quotes.  I came across this one the other day and thought it was a keeper.

“Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”

Life as it is..

“Life Vegetates”

I thought of this the other day.  Life has a way of making every day the best thing in the world or the worst thing.  (right now your probably wondering, so much for the wood working huh spence.. haha, sorry, but as you know this is my third quote I’ve posted and they help add a little).

Life Vegetates.  I thought of this (and its two meanings) one night.  We know the word Vegetate as being referred to growing or eating.  We can then make the assumption that this quote is meant to be said in good terms.  Life helps us grow. We grow by filling our body with nutrients obtained from food. Any food.  Ok, so it’s best to eat healthy food.  haha. Thats my nutritional education for the day.  ; ) We grow by meeting people, by experiencing things and living openly. Life gives us the chance to explore as much as we want. It’s up to us on whether or not we want to pursue that.

Life vegetates.  I feel it has a negative meaning too.  We can think of the word Vegetates again by eating; destroying something else.  No, this isn’t my negativity.  It just caught my attention as I began pondering the meaningfulness of these words adjoined.  So, maybe, in the context of negativity, Life has a way of eating itself.  In a matter such as self-destruction.

In the end, these words are dependent upon how the individual interprets them.  The individual, You. The reader.  You know, this is similar to the optimistic/pessimistic test of whether or not the glass is half full or half empty.  Think of my quote and how you interpret it to yourself.  Maybe a change needs to happen.

This is in no way meant to hurt anyone.  Just a little philosophy.  : )

Best Regards,

It’s been a while..

My last post was in the middle of March. School, sports, and other activities pull me in different directions one a daily basis. It’s good to have change here and there. In fact, I just returned from my spring break trip to Jamaica. I resided with 6 of my good friends within an all-inclusive resort for 6 days. Paradise..

It was beautiful. My highlight was going scuba diving. The underwater world is something I have never experience before until now. Life underwater is an eye-opener and I guarantee I will be scuba diving many more times throughout my life.

A new cigar pen page (on the right side) was put up this afternoon. It’s nothing too long but hopefully some of you will find a slight interest. As for now, I’m off to work! Enjoy the rest of your weekend..

Oh, and here’s my latest quote..

Fulfill your everyday life with adventure, not routine. Life is too short to act habitually. A healthy mind survives on distinction, exploration, and enthusiasm.

So far so good..

Hey everyone.

Just wanted to send a quick shout out to all who have viewed my site/blog.  I’m surprised with the total views esp. since i’ve only been open for about a week.  This is the eight day i’ve been up and we’ve hit (as of this minute) 377 page views.  I’m very proud of those results.  Thats on average 50 page views since the opening.  Yesterday was the best day with just over 97 hits.

I’m working on more content at the moment.  So far all it has been is idea after idea but I need to find a way for people who visit, to have a meaning to come back! I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve but as for now i’m slowly becoming more and more recognized through organizations on Facebook and mybloglog.com.  Those are the  big boys for now.. Until then… thanks for the support!
All the best and have a great week! : )
