Here is the first step: Laying out a rough outline of the desk with masking tape onto the floor and screwing 2×4’s to the wall for support.
The whole desk was constructed of MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard).
I had to make sure they were level especially since the floor wasn’t even close!
The beginning stage of the top.
Construction of the shelving unit took place outside.
Above, I am placing a large portion of the top onto the shelving unit. The boards screwed underneath to the top are pine. They are only there for extra support along that biscuit joint. I was unsure of how strong biscuits would make it, but to my surprise they held up a lot better than I expected.
I missed a few pictures from here on out, but this picture is of me using a flush trim bit in my router to create a flush edge so both of my layers of MDF are the exact same. This step was done AFTER I cut, using a jigsaw, my final pattern of the top. (It appears as if there are two layers but in actuality there is only one. The bottom portion is just an 8 inch border all the way around so it appears thicker and allows for my 1.5 inch T-molding.)
I’ll admit I slacked a little on the picture taking, I was too concerned on finishing this as fast as I could.
